USATF Elite Development Club

August 1st, 2009

URC is seeking Elite Development Club status from the U.S. Track and Field (USATF) association.

For the serious runner, the USATF (Track & Field) Elite Development Club (EDC) Program encourages the development of running clubs which may some day become EDCs.  As the USATF states, EDCs are intended “to develop nationally and internationally competitive athletes by increasing and enhancing the number of year-round training environments available to post-scholastic and post-collegiate U.S. athletes. By increasing the total number of talented high school and college athletes who continue their serious competitive involvement in the sport following graduation, we enlarge the talent pool from which our future stars can emerge.”In order to be listed among the other major EDCs by the USATF, the club must demonstrate that they have “the commitment, resources, and record of providing significant assistance to these athletes, thereby making it easier for the athletes to continue high-level, competitive involvement” in USATF sports.

For this reason, we are marshaling community and corporate support for sponsorship to help with the costs of travel, race-registration, athletic apparel and shoes, coaching, recruiting, and advertising to help the local elite who are part of the club.  The URC hopes to provide sponsorship for members to travel to National Championships and other large competitions.
